Profile

Biography

Thirty years in general surgery, creator of the miSAR® technique for the abdominal wall. Education, professional career, teaching and scientific work.

Success loves preparation…

I am Dr Gabriele Manetti and I have devoted over thirty years to surgery, guided by the values of professionalism, consistency and dedication. I graduated in Medicine and Surgery from La Sapienza University in Rome with the highest honours (110/110 with distinction), and completed my specialist training in General Surgery with equal success (70/70 with distinction) at the same university, under the direction of Prof. Sergio Stipa.

During my career I have worked in various hospitals, both in Italy and abroad. My professional experience includes the prestigious Institute Gustave Roussy in Paris, the “San Giovanni – Addolorata” Hospital Trust and the “Sandro Pertini” Hospital in Rome. I have also worked in private practice at several private facilities. I currently work at the Villa Salaria, Villa Claudia and Quisisana private clinics in Rome, as well as at Clinica Villa Rizzo in Syracuse, Sicily.

I have always strongly believed in continuing professional development. I have attended training courses in laparoscopic surgery at national centres of excellence, including Naples, Abano, Padua, Milan and Modena. Since 2010 I have further developed my expertise in robotic surgery, attending both basic and advanced courses, and I have developed a new laparoscopic technique for reconstructing the midline of the abdominal wall, specifically for midline defects (diastasis and hernias), called the miSAR® technique.

I was head of the general and emergency surgery department at the “San Giovanni – Addolorata” Hospital Trust until April 2024.

Alongside my clinical work, I have taken part in humanitarian missions in various parts of the world, including Benin, Guatemala and Togo, to make my own contribution – as a surgeon – to improving living conditions in less fortunate communities.
